UPDATE: Seeing even a few minutes of this show makes us realize the incredible power of the media. Can you imagine a world where caring, compassionate people were portrayed on television 24/7? What kind of message would that send? Go here for a complete recap; Reboot recommends checking this show out — even if you just watch a short clip.
While we love a glitzy award show that honors people in the entertainment industry, this Thanksgiving we are thankful for a growing trend to recognize and reward people for their contributions to society. RebootTheMedia first commented on this trend with the Do Something Awards, and now we want to bring attention to CNN Heroes.
The CNN Heroes campaign salutes everyday people whose extraordinary accomplishments are making a difference in their communities and beyond. The “award” show is hosted by Anderson Cooper, who said each hero, “woke up one day and decided it was up to them to start filling a need.” He added, “The world does not need another award show, but we wanted to turn the tables and shine a spotlight on people who really deserve to be honored.”
The 10 heroes recognized on the show were chosen from thousands of people taking on big challenges worldwide. You can see the complete list of heroes and find out more about their causes on the CNN Heroes website.
UPDATE: “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” first aired Thanksgiving night, and will be replayed over the Christmas holiday (check local listings).
