Each year, America’s Got Talent brings us several breakout stars whose audition videos go viral, racking up tens of millions of views.
People love the surprise of talent from unexpected places. Think back on Susan Boyle’s audition from Britain’s Got Talent, for example.
But, I suspect, that’s not the entire story.
We are often moved to tears by the caterpillar-to-butterfly metamorphosis that unfolds right before our eyes on these talent shows.
Yes, the talent is there, the singing is beautiful and music can move and inspire us. But that’s not the whole story.
I think, what really moves us, what really gets us right at the heart and soul of it all, is The Moment.
The moment they find out how amazing they are.
Because somewhere, deep inside, well-protected from the slings and arrows life has thrown at us, we want to be fully seen, to be known, to be appreciated. Because something happens when we find out that we are indeed amazing.
As 12-year-old Grace VanderWaal said when asked if she thought she could win America’s Got Talent, “I believe miracles can happen, so possibly…”
